Child Trauma Advocate
Compensation: Based upon education, experience.
Work Schedule: 40 hours weekly; can be varying schedule dependent upon program needs
Position Summary: The Child Advocate will be under the supervision of the Executive Director, is responsible for
providing trauma-informed direct services to NUMC’s resident and daycare-enrolled children including
support, advocacy, crisis intervention, safety planning, parenting support, and referrals to community
resources. The position requires an ability to respond in a sensitive manner to women, men, teens, and
their children who may be in crisis and/or seeking support.
Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Facilitate individual and children’s groups and activities.
2. Provide recordkeeping and reports as required by funding sources.
3. Advocate for children and adult victims of domestic violence.
4. Provide assistance to the Director with overall program efforts to meet grant requirements.
5. Maintain confidentiality of the program and clients served.
6. Must have basic computer skills in Microsoft Office to effectively utilize and prepare documents.
7. Be articulate and able to present during community outreach and/or fundraising events.
8. Be knowledgeable of program policies and procedures.
9. Be prepared to cover needs of program upon request.
10. Provide crisis intervention and support to incoming hotline callers.
11. Attend staff meetings while on or off duty.
12. Maintain for safekeeping, client files in compliance with grant and/or contract guidelines.
13. Refer clients to other agencies and resources and advocate directly with other agencies as needed
to help client access necessary services. Maintain service partnerships with referral agencies.
14. Oversee security, complies with all rules and regulations of agency policies and safety procedures.
Document program happenings and client activities as required.
15. Facilitate problem solving for conflicts and crises under supervision of Director, encourage and
model appropriate interactions, mediate on behalf of residential clients when appropriate, provide
appropriate follow-up documentation of emergency incidents or non-compliance of rules.
16. Perform other duties as assigned.
17. Maintain all agency properties including cellphones, keys, etc. understanding that all property not
personally owned by employee must be returned to agency upon completion of employment whether it
be voluntary or involuntary.
Qualifications:
1. A minimum of Associates Degree preferred in related field or equivalent work or volunteer experience
and training preferred.
2. Awareness of relationship violence, child abuse, stalking, and sexual abuse and assault preferred.
3. Good oral and written communication and computer skills are required.
4. Bilingual (English/Navajo) preferred.
5. Must obtain and maintain First Aid/CPR certification and initial TB test, random drug screens.
6. Must pass a CYFD background check.
7. Must have a valid driver’s license, vehicle and appropriate vehicle coverage and maintain driver’s
eligibility as a condition of employment. Be eligible to be put on agency vehicle insurance at all times.

• Physical- meet the physical requirements of the job including lifting, carrying, pulling and
pushing up to 30 pounds. Will be required to sit, stand, walk and use hands and fingers. Vision
requirements include close, distance, peripheral vision, and well as depth perception and the
ability to adjust focus.

or image of New Beginnings will be subject to immediate disciplinary action up to and including
termination.
Training Requirements: 40 hours of domestic violence advocate training required within the first year of
employment with additional 20 hours yearly. In-house training opportunities will be offered throughout
employment with mandatory attendance expected.
